How to GSD on Meta's New Threads App

Hey there,

Welcome to our inaugural weekly newsletter!

Over the next few weeks, we'll be experimenting with different formats to determine the most effective one. Our primary goal, however, is to deliver unparalleled value to you.

Let's dive right into most recent news: Threads, the new social app by Meta, has taken the world by storm!

With over 100 million users signing up within the first 5 days, in over 100 countries (excluding the European Union), it's safe to say that Threads is Zuckerberg's long-awaited first punch in his battle with Elon Musk.

You can read more about it here:

But what do you do if you’re just getting started there?

Growing On Threads If You Have Less Than 1,000 Followers

For solopreneurs, digital nomads, and remote workers, having a strong social media presence is crucial.

Some of you may already have more than 1,000 followers on Instagram.

However, not everyone knows how to effectively grow their accounts, especially when they have less than 1,000 followers and starting from scratch on a new platform.

But fear not! Having a smaller following doesn't necessarily equate to poor sales or financial success in the real world.

However, Threads offers you a fresh opportunity to build your following, observe trends, and engage with a new platform from the ground up.

It's not every day that a major player like Meta presents such a chance.

So, how can you meaningfully grow your social account when you have less than 1,000 followers?

Become the Reply Person

In other words, spend more time engaging with content on larger accounts rather than solely focusing on creating your own. Don't be disheartened if your own content receives little engagement. This is not uncommon for newbies. Instead, invest your energy in crafting thoughtful responses to posts from influential accounts — as this helps increase the visibility of your wisdom and accelerate those who follow you.

On Threads, here's how you can do it:

  1. Identify 3-5 prominent accounts in your industry that you admire.

  2. Set up notifications so that you're alerted whenever they publish new content.

  3. As soon as they do, take the time to view their content and craft a meaningful response.

  4. Avoid generic one-word replies like "great," "cool," or "nice." Instead, incorporate personal stories that relate to their content.

  5. Always strive to provide value in your responses.

If you're new to this strategy, it may take some practice to come up with meaningful responses. Take inspiration from others who excel at engaging in the comments section, study their techniques, and apply them yourself.

Good luck!
